The greatest successes
...Heini Walter - owner of a garage in Aesch near Basel - entered the racing scene for real in 1955 with a "special home-made construction" Porsche engine, soon proving to be an outstanding master of the steering wheel. Particularly in later years, after switching to faster Porsche constructions such as the Spyder RS and the Spyder RSK, he repeateadly demonstrated his superiority based not only on his excellent driving abilities, but also on his extensive technical knowledge.
He took the car racing battles by storm as he increasingly succeeded in getting his private cars over the finishing line ahead of his competitors. Walter entered hill climbs in his home country and abroad - and just how fast and realiable he already was back in 1959 can be seen in the following fact: not only did he keep winning races in his home country, he also won the German championship in a Porsche that year. On countless occasions... over the following years, the hardworking Swiss master driver showed that he had real class and also that even a country with no motor industry of its own can bring first-class men onto the racing tracks of Europe. After 21 years of active racing, Walter retired officially in 1968.
